16 photographs, bound in a zine and delivered straight to your doormat.
StateOfAmsterdam.com
A growing central collection of small, self-published zines that brings together diverse, unfiltered perspectives on Amsterdam.
The zines contain 16 photographs, printed on two A4 sheets and cut into a handmade zine (size 10x14 cm, 140 g matte paper).
Each zine is dedicated to one photographer and offers a glimpse into how they see Amsterdam, through a specific theme, a project they are working on, a neighbourhood, a moment, or simply their own approach to street photography.
There is already an enormous amount of photography available online. These zines are a different way to experience that work: offline only, printed, personal, and tangible. Instead of seeing another photograph disappear into a social media feed, you can hold it in your hands, keep it, collect it, or share it with someone else.
At its heart, this is not a commercial project. It is a project born from my passion for street photography and Amsterdam, and from a desire to give photographers a small platform to share the way they see the city.
The idea is to keep everything as simple and accessible as possible. Photographers can showcase their work without needing a large publication or expensive production, while anyone interested in photography can discover and collect printed work from photographers documenting Amsterdam.

There are no costs for the photographers and they are not paid, and participation is currently by invitation only.
Naturally, the participating photographer will be sent a free copy of the zine.
And the photographs will only be used for this zine.
However if you think your work belongs here too, send website and/or social media links to: mail@stateofamsterdam.com

The zines can be ordered by mail/form (sorry, I don't have a fancy webshop) and delivered directly to your address. Each one costs just €5, which covers the production, printing, and shipping anywhere in the Netherlands. For outside of the Netherlands I just need to check the rates for sending an international letter. There is no profit margin built into the price, the €5 simply makes it possible to create and send the zine.

Each zine has the same format ::
- One photographer
- Real photographs, real paper, real perspectives on Amsterdam
- 16 full page photographs (size 10x14 cm, 140 g matte paper)
- €5 (including shipping costs in the Netherlands)

All for the love of the street and the city of Amsterdam.

The State originally started as a non-commercial collective zine showcasing the work of so many other people who, like me, walk through Amsterdam every day.  The zines were only available as hard copies in a limited (50 to 100 max), one-off edition.
