I started a project that I completely forgot about. Until today, when I suddenly remembered it again.
I had created my first pocket-expo State of Amsterdam exhibition, leaving 8 take-away photographs for people to find and take home, each one tucked inside a CD jewel case. Free to take. Free to live somewhere else.
Coming back to it today (a month and a half later), I realised the project had continued without me. Exposed to all kinds of weather, the photograph left behind had slowly transformed. The elements had become part of the work, creating something entirely new.
Of the 8 photographs, only one remained. I took it home myself, and looking at it now, it has become a completely different image.
There’s something beautiful about letting go of a piece of work and allowing it to live its own life. To be taken, weathered, changed, and transformed by time.
Maybe the project wasn’t forgotten after all. Maybe it was just doing its own thing.
