Photowalk with Marcel Borgstijn
2023, October 18
Marcel is the man behind Darkooms, a weekly photography newsletter about inspiration and thoughts, interviews and projects. He also released the first edition of Darkrooms Magazine. A quarterly online magazine featuring photographers' photographic projects, accompanied by essays on the project, the process and some of the lessons learned.
He happened to be in Amsterdam today and asked if I would like to meet up. Absolutely, after a meet & greet at Central Station we walked via Warmoesstraat to Waterlooplein. And back via Rembrandtplein, the Munt, Bloemenmarkt, Leidseplein to the Spui, Dam Square, Nieuwendijk, Haarlemmerstraat and back again to Central Station.
We talked a lot about our magazines but especially about the love of street photography and sharing and doing things together with other street photographers.
It's just really nice to see that there are really people who enjoy all this and who also want to do it together and especially want to share it with each other. I am sure that we can and will set up more initiatives like this.
Another very interesting project Marcel told me about is the Rozou Project.
How great would that be to project our street photography images on the street on a plain background?
Even if you wouldn't do it as this project. It is a nice way to show your work like this. Especially when there is no budget or opportunity for a print version as an exhibition. Something I hadn't really thought about. It should be much easier to find a location and simply place a mini projector with photos somewhere.
